Abbas: List of heritage sites a dangerous provocation
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that adding the Cave of Patriarchs and Rachel's Tomb to the list of national heritage sites was a dangerous provocation which may spur a religious war.
During a speech before the Belgian parliament in Brussels, Abbas said that Israel's move disregards US President Barack Obama's request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take confidence-building measures in contacts with the Palestinians. "We have reached a very critical stage which warrants coordinated and intensive international action," Abbas said. (Ali Waked)
