US tech executives interested in Syria

State-run news agency says Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, Symantec, VeriSign consider setting up authorized centers in Syria

Syria's state-run news agency SANA says executives from some US technology companies have expressed readiness to develop cooperation with Damascus.

SANA says the American executives from Dell Computer Corp., Cisco Systems Inc., Microsoft Corp., Symantec Corp. and VeriSign Inc discussed Wednesday setting up authorized centers for these companies in Syria.

The executives met with Minister of Higher Education Ghayath Barakat.

On Tuesday, the delegation met Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdullah al-Dardari who urged American companies to invest in Syria and benefit from the opportunities available in his country.

Syria is trying to spread computer culture in the country.
