Round of new appointments in the IDF – Major General Aviv Kochavi on Monday assumed the position of new Military Intelligence chief, replacing Major-General Amos Yadlin.
In a ceremony at the Glilot military base, Yadlin said, "I wish I could expose the daring operations and the activity we do. We stand before unprecedented challenges in five active and hostile fronts that might attack us in the future.

"We must not ignore countries and organizations that are amassing power, arming and trying to identify our weaknesses. It is our duty to develop our capabilities to cope with these threats."
Yadlin added that during his years in service, he encountered for the first time and battled successfully new technological challenges, mostly in the virtual world. "This is a new front that the intelligence unit must keep developing for the security of the State," he said.
During the ceremony, Kochavi noted that "we will do everything we can in order to provide quality intelligence to IDF forces, so that they succeed in their missions."
IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi also spoke at the event, saying "the Military Intelligence is the eyes, ears, and sometimes even the brains of the State of Israel."
Kochavi, 46, recently ended his term as the IDF's operations director. Prior to this position, he served as commander of the Gaza Division during the 2005 disengagement.
