Three young women will finish Air Force cadets' courses this week to become a fighter pilot, a transport pilot, and a navigator. They will be the first women to finish in a year and a half.
They will not be breaking any records, however, since three women finished their cadets' course in 2005.
Cadets graduating this week come from all over Israel. Since the last course there has been a significant rise in graduates who reside in the south, up to 22.5% from just 5%.
More than two-thirds of cadets graduating live in cities, 15% were born abroad, and 15% describe themselves as traditional or religious. Over a half were members of a scout troop in their youth.
Only one of the cadets finishing this week is married, and close to 40% are the eldest of their siblings. Regarding their parents, some 27.5% of mothers are teachers and 12.5% of fathers are engineers.
