Police have arrested a 57-year old man from Holon on suspicion he stole donations made to the family of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit. The court will be asked Wednesday to extend his remand.
Police suspect the man claimed donations in the Shalits' name but then neglected to transfer the money to the family.
The arrest was the second one made in relation to fraud concerning the Shalit family. Earlier this week police detained Ronen Bar Shira, who is suspected of soliciting donations to the family as well as Carmel fire victims.
Police suspect Bar Shira stole hundreds of thousands in this manner. The affair was revealed by Yedioth Ahronoth.
The paper published an investigative report last week in which it was revealed that Bar Shira solicited donations for two big Shalit projects – funding of buses to take people to a concert on the family's behalf as well as a flotilla from Ashdod.
