Japan police: More than 215,000 people in temporary shelters
More than 215,000 people were evacuated to temporary shelters in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami waves that hit Japan, the police said.
So far, some 1,400 people have been declared dead or missing in the disaster. At least 1,200 homes were destroyed by tsunami waves on Japan’s east coast. (AFP)
