Uri Lifshitz

artist Uri Lifshitz passed away at the age of 75 on Saturday after a battle with cancer. He is survived by seven children from three different women.
Lifshitz was a well-known painter and print artist who won many prestigious awards including the Eugen Kolb Prize for Israeli Graphic Art (1965), the Erasmus Prize (1966) and the Dizengoff Prize for Painting and Sculpture (1985). His works were displayed in many local and international exhibitions.
Lifshitz was born in Kibbutz Givat HaShlosha in 1936. His parents were amongst the founders of the kibbutz. He served in the IDF alongside former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in the special forces commando Unit 101.
His early work was characterized by a lyrical abstraction style. In the early 1960s he changed directions into figurative art. He never received formal training but studied briefly with artist Haim Kave.
