Abbas promotes terrorist released in Shalit deal

Palestinian president names former Force 17 commander Mahmoud Damra special presidential advisor for district affairs

One of the Palestinian prisoners released as part of the prisoner exchange deal that secured the release of Gilad Shalit can now boast a new title – special presidential advisor.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has named General Mahmoud Damra, also known as Abu Awad, to the post of special presidential advisor for district affairs.

Damra, who once commanded Force 17 – the Palestinian presidential guard – was held in Israel after he was implicated in terror acts against Israelis.

He was directly involved in several attacks that claimed Israeli lives and fired an RPG projectile at an IDF tank during 2002's Operation Defensive Shield.
