Akiva Mozes stepping down as ICL CEO

Mozes, who has been with company for 37 years, says has been mulling decision to resign over past few months

Israel Chemicals CEO of the past 13 years, Akiva Mozes, announced his resignation from the company Sunday morning. The decision follows news of the upcoming resignations of Bank Leumi and Teva chiefs, Galia Maor and Shlomo Yanai.

After consulting with company Chairman Nir Gilad, Mozes notified the board of directors he wished to step down as company CEO. He said he had not set a final date for his resignation so as to allow the board to find a replacement. Until then, Mozes will remain in his position.

Mozes wrote in his retirement notification: "I started my career at ICL 37 years ago as a young economist in a phosphate company in the Negev. I developed with the company and filled numerous positions until 13 years ago I was appointed CEO.

"ICL, its employees and executives have become an inseparable part of my life. I have been mulling the decision to leave the company in the past few months. I think that after such a long term in the company's most senior office, it is only fitting that I hand over the baton to another executive. It's the way of the world and this is how it should be.

"I wish to thank all the employees of the ICL group in Israel and abroad, all its executives and all its present and past directors. Together we have built a company to behold."

'One of the finest managers in Israel'

Mozes added, "In particular, I would like to thank Sami Ofer, may he rest in peace, and his son Idan Ofer, for the great trust they put in me.

"ICL has been part of Israel's industry's very existence since the middle of last century and it is part and parcel of the lives of the Negev residents whether in cities, villages, kibbutzim or the Bedouin population.

"I am proud of being part of the national and Zionist enterprise of bringing life to the Negev desert and of establishing Israel's industry and export even in these times of criticism and cynicism."

ICL Chairman and Israel Corporation CEO Nir Gilad said, "We sadly accepted Akiva Mozes' request to end his tenure as CEO. Idan Ofer and I did everything in our power to persuade Akiva to stay with the company".

Israel Corporation Chairman Amir Elstein also commented on the resignation, saying that "Mozes is one of the finest managers Israel has ever known. ICL was lucky to have a man of his stature and abilities at its helm."
