According to the Palestinian news agency, Hamas and Egyptian authorities are working to prevent the importation of cars which have been purchased through fraudulent means and brought into Gaza through tunnels on the border.

The crackdown came in response to complaints from many Egyptian residents of Sinai whose cars were stolen, Ma'an reported.

A Hamas operative who is familiar with the smuggling industry told Ynet a few years ago that the vehicles are dismantled in Egypt and then smuggled to Gaza, where they are welded back together.
