Israel's Viber Media Inc., which has developed an application for smartphones allowing users to make free calls and send text messages to each other, is becoming a global hit.
The company announced Monday that they have surpassed 50 million users with over a billion minutes of calls per month. The announcement comes only 13 months after Viber launched its VoIP application.

While Skype has reached 54 million users after only two and half years on the market, Viber reports an additional 200,000 people join their services every day.
Most users are from the United States, Spain, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
Viber is an application for iPhone and Android phones based on internet and wireless technology. The application is available in 193 countries.
