Shots were fired Thursday at a group of hikers near Mitzpe Yericho in Binyamin. IDF and police troops arrived at the area and started scouring for perpetrators.

According to initial investigation, the hikers rushed to their car once they noticed a man approaching them and acting suspiciously. As soon as they started driving away, shots were fired at the car.

Local residents who heard the gunshots called in security forces, which scoured the area. Soldiers found several bullet casings, strengthening the suspicion that the incident was an attempt at a terrorist attack.
Police issued a warning to residents of West Bank settlement of Mitzpe Yericho, advising them to stay indoors.
Mitzpe Yericho spokesman, Moshe Eyal, said, "Large numbers of troops are searching the area. As far as we're concerned, this incident is the result of misconduct regarding an infiltration to a yeshiva within the settlement last month. We expect the Israeli government to instruct security forces to deal with these incidents."
