"Why did this happen to us?" the shooter's mother, Hannah Alon, cried out during the funeral.
On Tuesday, she said she couldn’t believe her son had done what he did: "It broke my heart that he destroyed four families. I don’t know what happened to him."
His sister, Kochava Orian, said that the entire family was in pain. "We are so sorry for the victims' families. We are people of faith; we believe everything is destined, but my heart is bleeding and we are crushed thinking what the families are going through.
Alon perpetrated a massacre on Monday at a Beersheba branch of Bank Hapoalim, claiming the lives of the bank manager Avner Cohen, 44, his deputy Meir Zitun, 44, Anat Even-Haim, 34, and Idan Sabri, 22. He then turned the gun on himself after his ATM card was blocked due to a debt of NIS 6,000 ($1,640).
