IDF Human Resources Directorate chief Maj.-Gen. Orna Barbivai has decided to dismiss the commander of Prison 4, Col. Omer Sobol, after a dangerous inmate escaped from the military prison's high-security wing on Tuesday. Despite the fiasco, Sobol's next administrative position within Military Police is secure.
The inmate was apprehended Wednesday morning in south Israel following a massive manhunt. The soldier escaped about a month ago from the same prison. Two Military Police officers who had served in the prison compound were relieved of their duties following the initial escape.

A preliminary investigation has found that the inmate exploited a number of security breaches at the prison to escape through the shower area.
In dismissing the commander of Prison 4, Maj.-Gen. Barbivai essentially adopted the recommendations of Chief Military Police Officer Brig.-Gen. Meir Ohana, which were submitted following his investigation into the circumstances of the inmate's escape.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said Col. Sobol is expected to end his term as Prison Four commander in two months' time.
Prison Four is located at the Tzrifin army base in central Israel.
