Tax hike on alcoholic beverages to enter effect Monday
The tax increase on alcoholic beverages entered effect on Monday, which is expected to result in a major price hike. According to the Tax Authority, the consumer costs of vodka and arak will double following the reform, while the costs of cheap whiskeys brands will rise at rates ranging between 20% to 60%.
The decision does not affect the cost of beer, which, for taxation purposes is classified as foodstuff. (Avital Lahav)
