Soldier wins NIS 27M lottery prize

Southern resident uses army paycheck to pay for lottery ticket which made him a millionaire. 'I'll put the money into a savings account and live off the interest,' he says

An IDF soldier on leave discovered he had won the first prize of NIS 26 million in the lottery Saturday. He also won the second prize of NIS 1 million and other prizes totaling NIS 72,000.

The soldier, a resident of the south, had won a raffle that took place a week ago having paid NIS 290 for a ticket in Ashkelon.

He collected his prize together with his father on Sunday, taking home a check for NIS 27,072,404.

He said he bought the ticket on his way to the base using his army paycheck. "I had a good feeling and decided to try my luck," he said.

"I have two feet firmly on the ground. I'll put the money into a savings account and take an interest every month. The interest will pay for my higher education, a rented apartment and a nice life. I also intend to help my parents and three brothers."
