Gantz: I hope situation remains calm

Chief of staff tours Golan Heights, tells paratroopers: 'We have to be determined, professional.' IDF lets some soldiers take weekend leave

Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Benny Gantz toured the Golan Heights during a paratroopers drill, and commented on the rising tensions ahead of a possible US strike in Syria: "I hope the situation stays calm, but if it doesn't we have to be determined and professional."

Gantz discussed the latest developments in Syria with the paratroopers and later visited an artillery battery and talked to its operators.

On Thursday it was reported that weekend leaves were cancelled for soldiers serving on the northern district close to the Syrian border.

However, following a situation assessment the decision was reversed and several soldiers were allowed to take a home leave.
