Knesset Member Isaac Herzog,
a member of the Judges' Election Committee, proposed a new initiative by which all judicial candidates will have to attend workshops about social issues such as same-sex marriage and single parent families.
Following an appeal to the Supreme Court, the protocols of the Judges' Election Committee, headed by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, were revealed Sunday.

The records show a request by MK Herzog to add more topics such as sexual identity to the list of subjects all judicial candidates are to be educated about. This follows the resignation of former judge Nissim Yeshaya who retired after telling a rape victim in his court that "some girls enjoy getting raped."
"The fact that he said that made me realize the social issues of gender and sexuality must be included in the judges' election process," Herzog said in the meeting. Minister Livni responded, "That's a good idea," and President of the Supreme Court Asher Grunis said that the issue will be discussed in following meetings.
It was revealed Sunday that judges will undergo bi-annual workshops about prostitution and human trafficking as well as sexual harassment and assault.
