An IDF combat soldier is being charged with using his personal weapon to shoot himself in the foot in order to be granted leave.
An indictment has been filed against him with the Kastina Military Court after the soldier completed a lengthy rehabilitation process. He is being charged with on charges of self mutilation and illegal use of arms.

According to the indictment, the incident occurred last year in a training base in southern Israel. During routine training, the defendant loaded his rife, and shot himself in his left foot with the purpose of getting a prolonged leave on sick days.
He was rushed to a hospital in the south where he underwent surgery and was hospitalized for three days. His plan was successful – he was given three months off for medical reasons.
His trial is set to start in the coming weeks. Similar cases have seen soldiers being jailed for lengthy period of times. Last year, a soldier asked a fellow soldier to break his fingers using a hammer.
