EU president: We will not tolerate attacks on basic Jewish rights
President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso announced that he opposes attacks on freedom of religion across the continent and he intends to convene a special convention of European Union representatives to discuss the rise in attacks on Jewish communities.


At a meeting in Brussels convened by Barroso and attended by the President of the Conference of European Rabbis Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, the EU president said: "We will not tolerate attacks on the important, and basic, religious rights like the freedom to perform a bris and kosher slaughter."
