Algeria warns against military intervention in Libya

Algeria's foreign minister has warned against foreign military intervention in Libya, saying it would only feed the chaos engulfing the country. Ramtane Lamamra said Thursday that foreign arms or direct intervention would further escalate the fighting between rival militias in the country.

Algeria's call echoes that of Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid, who also cautioned Wednesday against intervention. Algeria warned against the initial foreign intervention that helped bring down Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, saying it would cause instability in the region.
