Security forces captured a Palestinian suspect in Herzliya on Tuesday after he allegedly drove through a checkpoint in Jerusalem. The car was found in central Herzliya.
"There is heavy movement by security forces and police in Herzliya right now," said a police spokesman before the suspect was captured, "following a suspicious vehicle that fled from the Jerusalem area and is in the center of the city of Herzilya. Forces have begun widespread searches for the driver."
The suspect, Ahmad Khatib, 20, from Sur Baher, near Jerusalem, has a criminal record. According to police, he had a fight with his father and then threatened to commit an attack. He left his house early Tuesday morning.
Herzliya municipality reinforced security around schools and places where crowds gather in response.
