WATCH: Bus driver whisks collapsed passenger to hospital

Rather than wait 20 minutes for an ambulance, a Haifa Egged bus driver closed the doors and took a 43-year-old unconscious woman to the hospital, with all the passengers in tow.

An especially caring Egged driver in Haifa redirected his bus to a hospital when a passenger collapsed and lost consciousness on Thursday afternoon.

The 43-year-old woman collapsed on the passenger bus near the Hadar HaCarmel neighborhood. An ambulance could be dispatched, the driver was informed, but it would take about 20 minutes. He took matters into his own hands, closing the doors and speeding off to the Rambam Health Care Campus, with all his passengers in tow. The driver reported to the emergency room that they were en route with a patient.

Thus, the bus was permitted to enter the ambulance drop-off area off the emergency room, and hospital's resuscitation team was standing by to treat the woman. Rambam spokesman David Ratner stated that the patient was again conscious and being treated.
