US President Barack Obama recently gave an interview to Cable news network CNN, in which he was asked to provide recommendations of books to the public. One the books was Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Israeli author Yuval Noah Harari.
The, book, which gives a short description of the history of the human species on planet Earth, was hailed by Obama as giving readers a perspective of how short our time on the planet has been, and showing them that things like science and agriculture should not be taken for granted.
Besides Sapiens, Obama also recommended the book The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, a novel about an escaped slave in the United States of the pre-Civil War era.
Sapiens was first published in Hebrew in 2011, and became a best seller. Its was translated into an English edition and first published in 2014. The book has not only been recommended by the US president but also by Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist, Bill Gates.
