An IDF soldier was evacuated to hospital in light condition overnight Sunday having sustained shrapnel wounds when a pipe bomb was hurled at a group of soldiers.
The incident came during the entry of combat engineering forces into a Jerusalem neighborhood and home belonging to a terrorist who carried out a deadly shooting attack on Sunday morning, leaving two dead and five wounded. The engineers were mapping the home ahead of its demolition.

In addition to mapping the terrorist’s home the IDF, in conjunction with the Shin Bet, the Judea and Samaria District Police, Israel Border Police and special forces, carried out an operation in search of weapons in Azzun village located in Qalqilya.
During the operation, the IDF captured and closed a weapons manufacturing site, confiscating a number of weapons in the process. Other homemade weapons were also found and seized in the town of Surif.
In light of Sunday’s attack, during which 1st Sgt. Yossi Kirma, a 29-year-old police officer and Levana Malihi, 60, a grandmother and former longtime employee of the Knesset were killed, police are continuing a widespead deployment in the capital ahead of Yom Kippur.
As part of the augmented presence, thousands of additional police officers will be stationed along Jerusalem’s streets. During the day of Yom Kippur itself, blocks will be set up along the border to prevent east-west crossings in the city.
The checkpoints will not only be intended to prevent potential terror attacks but also to stop provocative actions by Arabs driving in the western half of Jerusalem.
Concerns were raised Sunday night in the Israeli security establishment as Arabs celebrated the earlier attack, many expressing solidarity with the terrorist. Consequently Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan ordered the arrest of the celebrants suspected of carrying out terror attacks and incitement to violence and terror.
In the eastern municipality of east Jerusalem more than 30 suspects were arrested, some of whom hung a picture of the terrorist and praised his actions.
Among those arrested in Wadi al-Joz and Isawiya were 15 people involved in rock-throwing and Molotov cocktails at civilians and security forces in the past.
