Border Police officers at the Hizma checkpoint north of Jerusalem fired at a Jewish man who tried to stab an IDF soldier in an apparent attempt of “suicide by cop.” The crossing was closed due to the incident, which took place at about 3:45 pm.
The would-be stabber was seriously injured by the gunfire. According to a statement from the Israel Police, the attacker is a resident of Pisgat Ze’ev in east Jerusalem and is 19 years old.
The police also announced that the man, who had not been drafted to the IDF for mental-health reasons, had left a note expressing suicidal intentions.
Last week, two Palestinian cousins from the Balata refugee camp near Nablus attempted stab soldiers with knifes near Nablus. In the first incident, one of the terrorists ran towards soldiers from the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade holding a knife. The soldiers shot and severely wounded him.
A day later, his cousin tried to carry out a stabbing attack in the same pattern: he ran towards soldiers form the same battalion and was also shot. Both of the cousins were taken to Israelis hospital for treatment.
