Yitzhar settlers clash with Palestinians from village of Urif south of Nablus; IDF forces rush to scene to act as barrier between warring parties, at which point 21-year-old Palestinian was shot in the chest, killed on site; Palestinian Health Ministry blames IDF, no official Israeli account of shooting initially emerges.

A 21-year-old Palestinian named Emer Shehadah from the village of Urif, south of Nablus, was shot and killed Saturday evening following clashes between Yitzhar settlers and Palestinians. IDF forces arrived to the scene to act as barrier between the parties and the Palestinian was shot during the ensuing confrontation.

While the Palestinian Ministry of Health ascribed culpability for the protester's death to the IDF, it remained unclear who carried out the shooting.

Another Urif resident, Hammam Sobhi, 16, was reported injured by the ministry with a gunshot wound to his foot during the same incident.

In a previous incident Friday, Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man during clashes in the Bab al-Zawiya neighborhood of Hebron, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

An Israeli military spokesman said the man had been about to throw a fire-bomb at the troops, who were responding to the immediate threat by shooting him. He added that the incident would be reviewed, not yet confirming the details given by the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, at the a-Tuwani village in the southern Hebron Hills, the IDF and police are investigating a suspected hate crime in which extreme right-wing activists smashed windows of Palestinian-owned vehicles.

More than 10 similar incidents have been reported in the West Bank in recent weeks.
