President Reuven Rivlin condemned on Thursday offensive comments made by MK Oren Hazan toward MK Pnina Tamano-Shata, who is of Ethiopian descent.

Hazan called Tamano-Shata a "pet immigrant."

"Pnina is an excellent member of Knesset," Rivlin said. "I'm warning against verbal, behavioral and sectoral violence."

"I simply want to apologize on behalf of all of us. I regret that there are citizens in the State of Israel who could do something like this to us," the president said.
