Hebron dance floor?

Dancing soldiers to star in educational video

Commander of 'dancing' brigade summons two officers involved in controversial video, tasks them with making educational video against similar incident in future

The dance that rocked the net will get a sequel. Colonel Amir Abulafia, commander of the Benjamin Brigade, summoned on Wednesday two of the soldiers who participated in the IDF dance video, which was uploaded onto YouTube and became an instant hit worldwide.

Abulafia told the two squad commanders that they did not act appropriately by participating in the video while donning their uniform, armor and weapon – but because their behavior did not display any moral flaws, he decided to give them an educational assignment.

The two will star in an educational IDF video that will attempt to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Aside from the two officers, all other "dancers" from Battalion 50 are already on vacation leave, as they are due to be released from the military in about a week's time. According to Abulafia, the video created a problematic situation, because of the fact the participants wore IDF uniform, and therefore the video was attributed to the IDF itself.

The IDF issued an official statement saying, "Two squad commanders who were involved in the video were summoned for clarification. They took full responsibility for the act, while its severity and consequences were explained to them. The IDF will produce an educational video in order to prevent similar incidents in the future."

The video shows six soldiers walking quietly down the street armed with guns and bullet proof vests, the soldiers were set into motion for a skit that lasted a few seconds when Kesha's hit song "Tik Tok" came on in the background.

The original video title noted that Israeli soldiers rock the Casbah in Hebron. By Monday afternoon, the video had been taken down by the original uploader, an Israeli YouTube user, after the clip received hundreds of response stating that media outlets had started publishing the video and had contacted the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

It received numerous reactions in the world media, most of them humorous. British news anchors started to laugh, while the Telegraph newspaper lauded the "baddest dudes and grooviest chicks" of the IDF.

The Daily Mail also took the video lightly and preferred to focus on the possible consequences vis-à-vis the soldiers.
