Right-wing threats: Far right activist Baruch Marzel recently sent a threatening letter to Arab Knesset Member Mohammad Barakeh (Ta’al) over the latter's vote in favor of settlement evacuation.
The letter stated Barakeh should “be wary of how he votes.”
The letter was sent to Barakeh following his vote in the Knesset’s Finance Committee in favor of the evacuation-compensation bill. Notably, Barakeh’s vote proved to be decisive and paved the way for the bill's approval.
“Even without your vote in the Finance Committee, but only because you are an enemy of the Jewish state, the government should put you on trial and throw you in jail,” Marzel wrote in the letter.
“However, following your vote in favor of expelling Jews from their homes in Gaza and the northern Samaria, and due to the fact that you have contributed to the reinstatement of the transfer bill, I inform you that in the following days appraisers will be sent to your home to estimate its value,” he said.
'I cannot vouch for his well-being'
Marzel also said in the letter, “the evacuation bill was passed with your backing, and now it is only a matter of time before it is implemented on other sectors of society, including you and your friends.”
“You want to expel Jews and claim it is ethical? Many Jews want to expel you, and they also claim it is ethical,” the letter said. “Today Sharon is drafting laws to evacuate Jews, tomorrow he will implement the same laws against Arabs."
Barakeh, who resides in the Arab town of Shfaram, issued a warning of his own in response to the letter.
“In Israel we have freedom of movement, and Baruch Marzel may come to Shfaram, but if he violates my privacy I cannot vouch for his well-being,” Barakeh said.
