Complaint: Rap artist incited violence

Popular singer Mook E says in interview 'settlers' bones should be broken, people who use ideals to justify forming society have hidden interests;' Yesha Council in response: Consumers should boycott him

Right-wing university students belonging to the "Orange Cell" group filed a complaint with the police Sunday against popular rap artist Mook E on grounds of inciting violence.

The complaint was filed following anti-settler remarks made by Mook E in an interview with Tel Aviv University's Student Union newspaper "Thesis," in which he said "We should deal with the settlers firmly; their bones should be broken, they should be loaded onto trucks and their mouths should be shut."

The students said that during this sensitive time people should refrain from issuing statements that may prompt violent acts.

The Yesha Council said in a statement "Mook E's comments are harmful and are an indication of ignorance and blind hatred; they have no place in the public discourse regarding (Prime Minister) Ariel Sharon's plan."

"The person who created the fiery atmosphere that permits such inciting comments is Sharon, who is resorting to all means necessary to slander and delegitimize the settler public," the statement said.

'Kid-glove treatment drives me crazy'

Yesha Councils members also called for a public boycott of the performer.

"We expect Israeli consumers to boycott Mook E immediately and call on Tel Aviv and Hebrew universities to cancel his "Student Day" concerts (scheduled for Thursday)," they said in a statement.

In the interview Mook E also attacked Supreme Court Judge Michael Heshin, who said the Gush Katif settlers should be compensated for the expected evacuation from their homes.

"What the honorable judge Heshin said – 'The people have chosen to disengage, the people will pay'- what is that? These people (settlers) settled in a place that is legally not a part of Israel. Why should I have to pay them?" he said.

"I do not believe people who say they're running a society based on ideals; there are always hidden interests."

Regarding the recent increase in road-blockings as a method of protest employed by the settlers, Mook E said "The kid-glove treatment the police employ against people who block roads and lock up schools drives me crazy."

"If they were Arabs they would have all been placed in prison and beaten severely. Why is it that during an Arab demonstration the police fires at the crowd and breaks bones, and when it is the Orthodox Jews who are protesting, police officers attend psychology courses on how to deal with them?" he said.
