A Palestinian police officer was killed by a wanted al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror suspect in the West Bank town of Jenin.

The incident took place after the shooter, Sa’ad Amin, was detained after engaging in an argument with a local official and attempted
to fire at him. Amin was taken in for questioning and subsequently released, but Thursday evening he returned to the police station where he was held and opened fire at a group of policemen.

One police officer was killed in the attack and another one sustained moderate to serious injuries. Amin, however, was not done for the night, and later set fire to a vehicle belonging to the official he had the argument with.

Meanwhile, senior Palestinian security officials convened a meeting in Jenin in order to discuss the incident.

Abbas pressed to end anarchy

Al-Aqsa Brigades members, however, denied any connection to the incident and a senior figure in the group said this was a personal matter.

The latest incident further demonstrates the Palestinian Authority’s inability to control the thousands of armed gunmen operating in its territory, despite pledges to end the near-anarchy in the PA.

In recent meetings, Israel, Egypt, and the United States have all demanded that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas act immediately to resolve the problem.
