Palestinian security forces not doing enough, Rajoub says

The growing chaos in the Palestinian Authority is the fault of ineffective PA security forces and should be met by a more aggressive stance on the part of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, PA National Security Advisor Jibril Rajoub says.
The unusual remarks follow Abbas’ admission Saturday that the Palestinian Authority is currently facing a security anarchy. In the past, Palestinian figures tended to blame Israeli actions for the state of chaos.

Palestinian security official says Monday’s terror attack requires tough Palestinian response against terrorists, vows to make every effort to end such attacks
Senior PA officials, including those close to Abbas, are increasingly concerned about the security forces’ inability to maintain law and order, a perception strengthened by recent shootouts in Jenin and Ramallah that left one police officer dead.
PA concerned about international response
The officials say that despite the replacement of senior security officers, Palestinian security apparatuses are unable to create deterrence in the face of growing armed gang activity.
Meanwhile, Palestinian residents could only chuckle in the face of a recent armed al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades rally in Gaza, called to protest the same anarchy that allowed the march to take place.
The Palestinian legal system has also failed in deterring the many armed groups operating in Palestinian territories. As a result, Palestinian leaders are convinced that a continuation of attacks – against both Palestinian and Israeli targets – would required the PA to undertake drastic measures against armed factions. Otherwise, the officials are concerned, the international community would hold the PA solely accountable for the situation.
