Settlers, Palestinians clash in Gaza

Tal Yam outpost settlers claim hundreds of Palestinians attacked them; Palestinians say altercation erupted after settlers seized control of two homes

SHIRAT HAYAM - Settlers and Palestinians clashed Tuesday at the Tal Yam settler outpost, located in the Shirat Hayam area in Gush Katif.

At least two settlers and one Palestinian were injured by flying stones during the altercation, which took place in close proximity to where the IDF razed abandoned settler buildings Sunday.

Tal Yam settlers claim that at about 8 p.m. (1:00 p.m. EST) hundreds of Palestinians attacked them with stones.

However, the Palestinians claim the confrontation erupted after the settlers seized control of two homes in the area.

Security forces arrived at the scene immediately, and IDF soldiers fired rounds into the air to drive away the attackers, who dispersed only several minutes later.

Police officials said both sides hurled stones.

The Palestinians are irate at the fact that settlers have seized control of a five-story Palestinian home that was evacuated during the last intifada riots.

During the past few days, there have been a number of clashes erupted between Palestinians and settlers, who had placed Israeli and orange flags on the house.
