Tragedy in Gaza: An IDF officer and four enlisted men were injured in a friendly-fire incident near the Gaza settlement of Kfar Darom overnight.
The incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. when a Palestinian opened fire at army and settlement positions from a three-story building some 40 meters (131 feet) from Kfar Darom.
Following the incident, IDF armed personnel carrier were summoned to the scene, but a tank returned fire at the building first, apparently killing the Palestinian but also hitting the personnel carrier.
All soldiers inside were hit by shrapnel, and the commanding officer was hit in the head. His condition is listed as serious but stable.
