Israel and Qatar have agreed to upgrade their relations in the near future, according to a report by Saudi newspaper al-Watan. The Foreign Ministry has dismissed the report.

According to the report, which is based on claims made by London-based diplomatic sources, a high level Israeli delegation is currently visiting the Qatari capital Doha, in order to agree on steps to strengthen ties in all sectors.

Arab sources have told Ynet that the report is accurate, and that the Israeli delegation in Noha is scheduled to return to Israel tomorrow (Sunday).

The paper further reported that the Israeli delegation is headed by a senior ambassador and that many of its members are fluent Arabic speakers. Another member of the delegation is said to be a former employee of the Israeli embassy in Cairo and Amman.

The report stipulated that the main purpose of the trip is to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries, alongside a coordination of policy positions on the international front.

In addition, the report claimed that both sides agreed to carry out normalization in relations far from the limelight of the media, so that Qatar could avoid criticism from other Arab countries.
