However, the circumstances of the incident are not yet clear.

Palestinian sources say elite IDF forces encountered the two suspects on the Jenin-Haifa road. The troops reportedly asked the men to stop but the two ignored the soldiers’ request and attempted to get away.

At that point, the Palestinians say, troops opened fire at the vehicle, killing Ahmed Abhara and Mahmoud Zaid.

Meanwhile, the army says the two wanted Palestinians continued driving and were shot at by soldiers, but eventually the driver lost control of the vehicle and the two men were killed.

Planning terror attacks

The more senior Palestinian killed, Abhara, was armed. The army said both men were members of the Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades as well as the Islamic Jihad.

According to the army, the two men were developing weapons and were planning on carrying out terror attacks.

A source from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades from Jenin said that the organization was unwilling to be restrained in light of what it said was the ongoing killing of its members by IDF soldiers.

A senior source in the organization said that "the moment that we respond to all these crimes is not far off." Other groups have not yet addressed the incident.
