Bibi: Kadima will crumble

Likud leadership candidate MK Benjamin Netanyahu says PM Sharon’s Kadima party introducing ‘flawed norms,’ blasts Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz for defecting to Kadima

(VIDEO) Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s Kadima party is introducing “flawed norms” that have no equal anywhere in the world, Likud leadership candidate Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday in response to Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz’s defection to Kadima.

“It's all about trading in politicians who have no values and principles," Netanyahu said."

"After I am elected, I will present a youthful yet experienced party list with a platform, and this will bring us to victory, prosperity, and peace," Bibi vowed at a press conference at his Tel Aviv headquarters.

He added: "The Likud has remained loyal to its principles, while Kadima, with its plunder of opportunists who are now members, will fall apart."

‘New meaning to term opportunism’

On Sunday morning, Mofaz announced that he was moving to Ariel Sharon's Kadima party at the start of a government meeting at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.

The Likud said in response that "Mofaz's desertion is a direct result of his poor performance in the polls."

It seems likely that Mofaz has been offered the position of defense minister in a Kadima-led government.

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said in response that "I was very surprised to hear this. Shaul Mofaz's drop in poll ratings brought him to this situation. I was one of the first ones in Sharon's shopping basket, but I said that would not quit the Likud. I am staying in my party, and I want to head this movement."

Shalom added: "I'm sorry that Mofaz has run out of strength. If he would have waited for just another week, he would see the Likud being reborn under my leadership with a new message, which will pull the masses along with it. It's too bad that one who has called the Likud a home decided to leave."

Netanyahu Aides said that "Mofaz has given new meaning to the term opportunism. His move points to a lack of morals and consistency. The Likud is loyal to its values and will continue for many years, and Kadima, with all of its opportunism, will crumble and be forgotten.”
