IDF uncovers bomb lab in Nablus
IDF forces uncover explosives weighing 50 kilograms; security forces operating in Nablus since Saturday following rise in number of attempted terror attacks from West Bank city
An explosives lab has been uncovered in Nablus by the IDF in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and security forces neutralized bombs through controlled explosions. There were no injuries.
The army uncovered the lab in an abandoned building after acting on intelligence. Captain Assaf Kavra described the IDF's operation: "We entered Nablus and scanned the area, capturing weapons and making arrests. Tonight we uncovered a weapons lab in the Kasbah in Nablus which contained 40- 50 kilograms (88-110 pounds) of explosives and equipment to prepare explosives devices."
In another home, IDF forces found eight magazine clips and a helmet.
Number of warnings up
Since the end of Saturday night, the IDF has been operating in Nablus as part of Operation Northern Lights, which is expected to last a number of days.
Security officials say that since the PA elections last month, the number of warnings of terror attacks emanating from Nablus and aimed at Israel has grown.
The IDF has been operating in the northern West Bank causing Islamic Jihad, Fatah, and the Popular Front to move their operations to Nablus.
Since the start of the operation, three armed Palestinians have been killed, two of whom were killed while planting explosives, and a third who was shot dead after opening fire at soldiers.
On Monday, a Border Police officer was very lightly injured by a Molotov cocktail. The officer did not require medical treatment.
Nine suspects, members of Islamic Jihad, Tanzim, and the Popular Front have so far been arrested. Some of those arrested have were behind the terrorist attack in the Old Central Station in Tel Aviv a month ago, an attack guided by Hizbullah and Syria, and funded by Iran, according to the IDF.
