ADL 'appalled' by calls to murder gays

Group strongly denounces flyers distributed in Jerusalem offering cash rewards for anyone who kills homosexuals

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said in a statement issued Tuesday that it is deeply appalled by the reported message of flyers appearing around Jerusalem calling for the murder of gays.

The flyers, signed by the unknown group “Red Hand for Redemption,” were circulated with promises of a NIS 20,000 bounty to anyone who “causes the death of a sodomite.”

“The Anti-Defamation League is appalled by and totally rejects as unacceptable this incitement to violence of one group toward another. ADL commends those who have spoken out against this bigoted rhetoric and provocation," the organization said.

"We have confidence that the law enforcement agencies will track down those behind this instigation and will see to their prosecution to the full extent of the law,” the statement read.

Protesting gay parade

In protest of the 2006 WorldPride Parade, scheduled to take place in Jerusalem on August 10, hundreds of letters, advocating "death to Sodomites", were distributed to Jerusalem mailboxes on Tuesday morning. They promised NIS 20,000 to "anyone who brings about the death of one of the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah."

The letter appeals to residents of the capital: "don't let them teach our children their impure ways."

The anonymous letter also suggests using Molotov cocktails against marchers and adds instructions as to how to make them at home. The explosives are nicknamed "Shliesel Special", in honor of the Haredi protester who disrupted the Jerusalem Pride Parade last year by stabbing three marchers.
