HP purchases Mercury for USD 4.5 billion

American computer giant Hewlett Packard Co. buys Israeli programming company Mercury Interactive Corp., thus ending independent path of one of nation’s largest programming companies

American computer giant Hewlett Packard Co. purchased the Israeli programming company Mercury Interactive Corp. for USD 4.5 billion, thus ending the independent path of one of the largest programming companies established in Israel.

The value at which the US company purchased Mercury is roughly 33 percent greater than the company’s market value when stock markets closed in New York.

In recent months the value of the company dropped owing to complications due to a stock options scandal.

Over the past year shockwaves rattled the company, which led President and founder Amnon Landon to quit.

The company had to redo its financial reports, which as a result weighed on its abilities to manage itself as an independent operation.
