Soldier severely wounded in southeast Lebanon

Golani soldier suffers serious wounds and two more suffer light wounds during IDF offensive in southeast Lebanese village

A Golani soldier was severely wounded and two more soldiers suffered light injuries during IDF operations Wednesday morning in the village of Mahabib in southeast Lebanon, it was released for publication Wednesday afternoon.

The soldiers were evacuated to the Rambam Hospital for medical treatment and their families were informed.

The soldiers were part of the force that entered the village in the framework of the widening of the Israeli offensive against Hizbullah. The three soldiers were wounded and ten Hizbullah operatives were killed when gun-battles erupted on the ground. The fighting in the area is still ongoing.

The IDF issued a statement that the operations in the village were intended to “damage Hizbullah infrastructure.” Further, it was noted that in the recent weeks the village has been used by Hizbullah to launch a large number of rockets at Israel, which resulted in numerous casualties.

IDF operating across south Lebanon

Earlier Wednesday morning two tank soldiers were lightly wounded in a separate incident during operations in the village of Taybeh. The soldiers were hurt when an anti-tank missile was fired towards their tank. Paratroopers were continuing to operate in Aita al-Shaab in the central sector, and two soldiers were evacuated from the battlefield with light wounds.

The village of Aita al-Shaab was the site a fierce fighting Tuesday, during which an officer and two soldiers were killed and 29 people were wounded in two separate incidents. Aita al-Shaab is located only one kilometer from the Israeli border, but the IDF clarified that it intended to operate as necessary anywhere where there was terror infrastructure in south Lebanon.

At the current stage forces were operating up to six kilometers into Lebanese territory. During the night, IDF infantry, tank and engineering forces captured the villages of Mis al-Jabal, Mahabib and Balida.

Simultaneously, troops continued to maintain control over the villages of Taybeh, al-Adaisa, and Rab a-Taltin, Aita al-Shaab, Maroun a-Ras, and Bint Jbeil. Hundreds of rockets had been fired from these areas towards Israeli communities over the past few weeks.
