Italy agrees to send troops to Lebanon

Italy on Friday formally endorsed sending troops to Lebanon, but like many other nations willing to

contribute to a greatly expanded peacekeeping force, it did not commit itself to specific numbers.

France, which had pressed for a much larger force than the 2,000-strong UNIFIL troops currently in Lebanon,

disappointed some on Thursday by only offering to double its 200 troops already deployed already there. (AP)
