Peres: No breakthrough on Gilad Shalit's release

None

Vice Premier Shimon Peres discussed with Ynet as he entered the cabinet meeting, saying, "Unfortunately, there has been no breakthrough in regards to the release of Gilad Shalit."

Peres was asked whether it is plausible to expect that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas can act to return the kidnapped soldier. He answered, "Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) is not the only one in the field. He is helped by the Egyptians, who are investing a great deal of effort. Also, American pressure on the Syrians is likely to help." (Ronny Sofer)
