Tel Avivians, northerners rally against leadership

Residents from Tel Aviv and residents from northern Israel came together to protest management of war in Lebanon, government attitude towards citizens

Residents of Tel Aviv and northern Israel communities are planning to hold a joint protest next Thursday against the state, which, according to them, let them down during the war in Lebanon. The rally is scheduled to take place at the Schuster Center in Ramat Aviv, where the protesters will call for the resignation of Defense Minister Amir Peretz, IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Ten weeks ago a group of people calling themselves the "Personal Responsibility Forum" began gathering at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv every Thursday calling for the government to take personal responsibility and resign. The forum began as an Internet forum bus quickly began to take shape as a real protest.

Ariella Miller, a resident of Tel Aviv told Ynet that "the war and its aftermath brought a wave of solidarity between the residents of Tel Aviv and the residents of the north. Many in the government treated the residents of Tel Aviv as if they were living in a bubble and are detached from the everyday reality. The joint rally is meant to give an answer to all those who claimed this."

The organizers said they hope that the bond between the residents of the north and the residents of Tel Aviv will get stronger and will ultimately reach its goal - change the regime which they believe failed during the war in Lebanon.
