Elie Wiesel is to receive an honorary knighthood from the British government next November in recognition of his services to Shoah education in the UK.
The survivor of Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps, who has dedicated his life to ensuring that the memory of the Holocaust is never forgotten, will be presented with the accolade by Foreign Secretary Margarett Beckett.
Wiesel has authored 36 educational works dealing with Judaism, the Holocaust and the fight against racism.
Elie Wiesel said: “I am grateful for the honor and hope it will help us serve the noble and urgent cause of remembrance.”
