Terror attack? Driver hurt by gunshots in south
Driver forced to stop car on way to Eilat because of rocks blocking road, and is then fired at. Police say growing suspicion pointing to act of terror
The driver of a private vehicle was headed towards Eilat with four members of his family on Tuesday night. As he drove along the road between Arad and Eilat he was forced to slow down near the Hatrurim junction when he noticed rocks blocking the road.
Suddenly, gunshots were fired by an unidentified person or people and the driver's ear was hit.
The driver was the only casualty and his condition was announced as lightly wounded by the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva where he was treated and then released.
Police were dispatched to the scene in large numbers and tried to locate the shooters.
Security forces has initially assumed that the shooting was criminal in nature but after determining that the family is from northern Israel and is not known to the police, suspicions are pointing towards an act of terror.
