Three Qassam rockets were fired on Thursday from north Gaza toward Sderot during the afternoon and evening hours. One rocket landed in the middle of a street, causing minor damage; a number of residents suffered from shock.

Another rocket apparently landed outside the western Negev town.

Earlier a Qassam rocket launched from the northern Gaza Strip landed in an open field in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council near Sderot.

No one was injured and no damage was caused.

In the morning a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza landed inside a Negev kibbutz.

There were no reports of injuries, but several houses suffered damage when a window was shattered in one of them. Pieces of glass fell near the bed of a sleeping child.

The Color Red alert system was activated in Sderot and the nearby kibbutzim at around 5:30 a.m., followed by a loud explosion.

The rocket landed in a kibbutz in which houses are not fortified, like nearly all the other kibbutzim in the area.

Sderot residents said they had expected the resumption of the rocket attacks on the city, this following the killing of a Palestinian gunman by Givati Brigade troops Wednesday near the security fence, north of the Karni crossing in northern Gaza.

'Islamic Jihad behind attack'

The soldiers opened fire at the gunman after noticing that he was carrying grenades and a rifle. The incident marked the first time the IDF opened fire at gunmen since the ceasefire with the Palestinians was declared.

On Tuesday five Qassam rockets were fired into Israeli territory after five consecutive days of calm. Palestinian sources said Islamic Jihad was behind the attack, but the terror group did not confirm the report.

The rockets landed in open fields, casing no injuries or damage. Twenty-five Qassam rockets landed in Israeli territory since the ceasefire went into effect.
