Tax Authority heads to be reinvestigated Saturday evening
After Shabbat break, investigation of Tax Authority officials to resume. Police expected to announce Sunday whether they intend to request lengthened custody of Tax Authority Chief Jacky Matza, or to release him on restricting conditions. Head of Prime Minister's Office, Shula Zaken, will be investigated Sunday
Among others, Tax Authority Chief Jacky Matza, held in police custody in a private cell in Bat Yam, was summoned for interrogation Saturday evening. In addition, businessman Kobi Ben-Gur, and head of Prime Minister's Office Shula Zaken's brother and member of Jerusalem City Council, Yoram Karashi, were summoned for interrogation.
It is estimated that police will release Matza to house arrest under restricting conditions on Sunday.
The investigators are making headway in the allegations that businessmen bribed senior Tax Authority officials in exchange for tax breaks and expedited processing, as well as Tax Authority jobs for their associates.
The investigations of Olmert's bureau chief Zaken and former Tax Authority Chief Eitan Rov will resume Sunday morning. The two are currently under house arrest.
Tax Authority Chief Jacky Matza's custody will expire Sunday, and the police are expected to announce whether they intend to request an extended custody, or release him on restricting conditions.
Friday, Vladimir Sklar, who recently served as chairman of Betar Jerusalem soccer club, was investigated in the tax fraud affair.
Sklar, who also served as head of the Jerusalem's municipal Sports Authority, is not considered a central suspect in the scandal, but has been defined by the police as "someone whose interrogation can shed light on this complex scandal."
