The nine-year-old son of an American diplomat stationed in Jordan drowned Wednesday of the Aqaba coast and was transferred in critical condition to Eilat's Joseftal Hospital.
The boy was connected to a life support system upon his arrival at the hospital at 1:30 p.m., and was later taken by helicopter to the Schneider Children's Medical Center in Petah Tikva.
The boy’s father, who accompanied him to Israel, said his son received first aid treatment in Jordan before it was decided to transfer him to Israel. The boy does not own a passport, but the Interior Ministry approved his entry due to the special circumstances.
While in Israel the father is expected to meet with US Ambassador Richard Jones and issue a passport for his son.
